The Mystery of the Ruby Shoes
A TOTALLY OZSOME ADVENTURE IN THE WONDERFUL LAND OF OZ
S.Tyrrell Donelan
I have been working in the private sector for the past 30 years. During that time I worked for a variety of clients in many different industries. In the beginning of my design career I opened a design studio that specialized in designing products and visual experiences for children. I wanted my studio to become the magic ingredient for my clients. I chose to name the business, Ruby Shoes Studio. My reasoning for doing this was to build a brand that would be synonymous with magic and whimsy. I wanted to differenciate the studio from the competition and stand out in a sea of Boston design agencies and firms that sounded more like law firms than businesses inspired by creativity.
Thinking back to my preteen years the one thing that popped into my mind was the Ruby Slippers in the Wizard of Oz. As a product of a broken home and raised by a hard working single mom, who struggled to keep food on the table and a roof over the heads of my sister, brother and me. During those early years there were some hard times but we got thought it. One of my happiest memories was watch The Wizard of Oz each year when it came on TV.
I was obsessed with the Ruby Slippers; I would let my imagination run wild creating mini scenarios and magical adventures. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that the Ruby Slippers were the magical icon I was looking for. So, after putting a modern spin on it, Ruby Shoes Studio was born and the spark for creating The Mystery of the Ruby Shoes was ignited.
